CG society Challenge XXIV - 'Secret Agent'

My entry is informed by images of cold war era military facilities, and the secret agent is an homage to Robert DeNiro’s character in Brazil, the rappelling freelance handyman/ saboteur Harry Tuttle.

JET STREAM
Honorable Mention, CG Society / NVArt 5 Competition Entry: Images of Future Transport in the style of Syd Mead
A proposal for a highway system powered by wind, drawing air from the environment through the use of turbines and intake vents to provide continuous directional propulsion. The prototype vehicle shown here is the Hyper Wing, a sail vehicle with an adjustable vertical fin to catch and manipulate the wind. Both highway and car are designed to operate using only clean wind and solar energy.

CIRQUE DU VENT
A follow-up image to Jet Stream, showing the Hyper Wing vehicle amidst a background of an offshore wind farm. Energy capturing kites and high density turbines arrayed into “wind nets” extend up in the air to harness the greater wind speeds at higher altitudes. In the distance, a weather monitoring observatory stands at the ready to calibrate the kites according to real time meteorologic changes.

SOLAR VALLEY
Inspired by Monument Valley, this cityscape features a series of colossal architectural constructs that mimic geologic landforms. The mile-high urban totems stand watch over settlements scattered across a harsh desert terrain, using their height to harness solar power above the dense atmosphere collecting in the valleys below.

1st Runner up, Evermotion Interior Design Challenge 2010
Inspired by Piranesi’s Carceri d’invenzione etchings, this scene uses industrial architectural fragments, arcane technological instruments, and volumetric light and shadow to compose a vast interior space.

POLAR COLONY
1st Place, 3D Total Matte Painting Challenge, February 2010
A polar colony serving as a water mining outpost, where ice is melted using geothermal heat and retained in large reservoirs. A network of embedded aqueducts transport water to other distant and more densely populated regions.

A towering architectural complex looms over a forest preserve. This scene is a study of mimetic yet incongruous pairings between the artifical and natural.
